Rugby returned from Buckinghamshire with a comfortable victory under their belts thanks to two second half goals at Mill Meadow.
The return to action of Lewis McBride eased Valley boss Dave Stringer’s injury worries slightly, and Richard Blythe and Seb Lake-Gaskin were also both restored to the starting line-up again – after they had missed the midweek draw at Egham.
Despite their lowly status, the home side started brightly enough though - with striker Alan Hedley finding himself unmarked in the box, before sending his header wide of Niall Cooper's goal.
Rugby then went on to dominate possession without really extending Chalfont keeper Michael Power-Simpson, but Josh O’Grady really should have done better with his effort from six yards after David Kolodynski’s cut-back had picked him out, but he blazed the ball way over the bar.
Power-Simpson was finally called into action in the 32nd minute when he saved Kolodynski’s shot from a tight angle after Richard Blythe’s precise pass, and just minutes later Kolodynski also put his overhead kick wide of the target.
Valley picked up the pace in the second period, and defender Ellis Myles drilled an effort from distance - which Power-Simpson managed to catch at the second attempt.
Just six minutes into the half, Blythe put Rugby ahead when his superb strike with the outside of his foot from twenty yards left the keeper motionless after Seb Lake-Gaskin had played laid the ball back.
The opening goal saw Town assume complete control of the game, with Kolodynski nearly doubling their lead not long after, but his effort drifted just wide - after another inch perfect Blythe pass had created the opportunity for him.
However it was not long before the visitors grabbed a second when Mitchell Piggon did well win possession in a central area before finding Kolodynski who executed an exquisite long range chip over Power-Simpson’s head in the 57th minute.
Rugby continued to press - with danger man Kolodynski having a couple of efforts go wide and over.
However the final ten minutes saw a late Chalfont rally, with both Scott Fitzgerald and Romaine Walker testing Cooper with decent efforts on goal – the latter of which saw the Valley keeper smartly fingertip the substitute’s strike away for a corner.
