Another Valley hat-trick for David Kolodynski helped his side cruise to an easy victory in an eventful encounter in Surrey.
The pitch was deemed playable after a morning inspection despite overnight rain and Town got the perfect start to the game going ahead in the 9th minute.
The ever impressive Lewis McBride produced a excellent ball to Kolodynski and from a tight angle turned a defender and, with the goalkeeper rushing off his line, his delicate shot crept into the net.
Within just four minutes, Seb Lake-Gaskin extended the lead when he struck a confident shot from the edge of the area from Greg Kazaboni's pass which no Chertsey player closed down.
Rugby were in complete control and just before their next goal, Kolodynski hit the post from a Nathan Fox free kick.
The third goal in the 29th minute was a special one - Lake-Gaskin lifted a cracking ball over a crowd of players and Kolodynski controlled and dipped a cracking shot over the helpless Garry Aulsberry in the Chertsey goal.
Rugby continued to dominate with both Jamie Towers and Fox going close with free kicks.
Town continued where they left off in the second half when in the 50th minute, Kolodynski completed his triple when he chipped Aulsberry in the area from Ellis Myles' cross.
Greg Kaziboni got in on the scoring act in the 54th minute to make it 5-0 after Steve Brown gave the ball away in midfield to Lake-Gaskin who passed accurately to Kaziboni who slid his shot past the keeper.
With victory in the bag, Town took the foot off the gas and Chertsey got a goal back in the 68th minute when Alan Musoke stabbed home from close range after a scramble in the area.
Play was stopped with 15 minutes to go when a heavy rain storm whipped across the stadium forcing the referee to take the players off for five minutes.
When they came back the pitch was becoming unplayable but Chertsey pulled another goal back through Ryan Blake.
The substitute produced a low shot from 18 yards to stun Niall Cooper.
In the dying embers of the game Rugby were awarded a penalty when Michael Williams was felled down by a defender and Lake-Gaskin completed the rout with a powerful penalty into the bottom corner.
