Rugby Town suffered a heavy defeat to local rivals Daventry Town at Communications Park on an August Bank Holiday to forget for the Valley faithful.
Valley suffered a defensive horror show and were easily picked apart by the host's direct style of play early on with three ex-Rugby players on target for Daventry.
With striker David Kolodynski suffering from a slight hamstring injury, Michael Williams made his first start of the season on the right hand side of midfield with Ellis Myles moving into an unfamiliar central role behind striker Seb Lake-Gaskin.
It was a particularly poor defensive display by Dave Stringer’s side, and the warning signs were there from the very first minute when Chris Murphy saw his shot sail over the bar after an initial mistake from Sam Belcher.
With just four minutes gone, Ashley Robinson put the hosts ahead though, when he got on the end of a flick-on to blast the ball into the net.
The hosts doubled their lead shortly after when Adam Confue looped one in from fifteen yards, with Daventry's dream start to the game continuing on sixteen minutes when Robinson bundled the ball home - despite an initial save from Valley keeper Niall Cooper.
This third goal came just after Lewis McBride had clipped the bar for Town with a cracking shot - which turned out to be Rugby's best effort of the match. Before the interval, the home side were then twice denied by good saves by Cooper from both Robinson and Scott Cross.
Any hopes of a second half Valley comeback evaporated on the hour mark, when Robinson laid off the ball to his strike partner Cross to apply a simple finish, after Robinson had once more been too strong for Alex Gudger.
Astonishingly, Daventry scored their fifth just two minutes later direct from a corner, with ex-Rugby man Ross Oulton's inswinging delivery deceiving Cooper to find the far corner of the net.
The visitors tried in vain to get at least a consolation from this disappointing performance, but Seb Lake-Gaskin drilled his shot wide late-on. .
