Rugby returned to winning ways with a comprehensive win away at Marlow with a hat-trick apiece for David Kolodynski & Jared Cunniff.
It was the sixth time this season that Town have registered six (or more) goals in a game, and the result ended a run of four games without a victory.
Even without the services of the injured Seb Lake-Gaskin, the hosts’ high defensive line proved rich pickings for the pace of Rugby’s attacking personnel, and time and time again they found themselves through on goal – especially in a totally dominant first half.
The visitors were ahead after just five minutes, when the unmarked Kolodynski nipped in at the near post to flick home a low Jamie Towers’ corner.
Towers volleyed just wide, with Cunniff also going close with an effort from inside the box – after a neat interchange with Justin Marsden.
Cunniff then waltzed through the Marlow back-line to be denied by keeper Erno Bostayn, but it was only a matter of time before another similar opportunity came, and when it did, Kolodynski made no mistake rifling his effort into the corner of the net – after Cunniff’s long ball had released him.
The impressive Cunniff grabbed his first and Rugby’s third with a scooped finish over Bostayn, after Marsden had picked out his clever run.
Further chances went begging for Town ahead of the break, with Cunniff just unable to get a shot away when Bostayn was stranded on the deck, and a low Towers free-kick almost squeezing home.
Kolodynski was soon in behind the defence again shortly after the restart, but after composing himself well, the ball got stuck under his feet as he was about to shoot.
Marsden clipped one over, and Greg Kaziboni shot straight at Bostayn, before Marlow scored twice within two minutes with their first real efforts at Niall Cooper’s goal.
Both strikes came from Jahson Downes, first catching Cooper by surprise from 25 yards and then adding a fine individual effort by showing quick feet on the edge of the penalty area before slotting home.
Any hopes of an unlikely comeback from the home side were short lived though, with Rugby’s pace again too hot to handle when Cunniff raced clear onto Kaziboni’s through pass to once more finish coolly.
Kolodynski lofted one wide, before he was taken out in the area by Nathan Ashton – giving him the opportunity from the penalty spot of yet another Town treble, which he gratefully accepted via the post.
The hosts had a goal of their own disallowed shortly after, with Jon Bennett adjudged to have fouled Alex Gudger as the two players challenged for a ball near the goal-line, and Marlow substitute Ian Davies then shot just wide.
Cunniff rounded off the scoring and his hat-trick in stoppage time though with a side-footed finish, after Kolodynski had created space before unselfishly passing to his team-mate.
