Valley put in an assured performance to record a much-needed victory at the Runnymede Stadium.
The hosts rarely troubled Dave Stringer’s side throughout the match, and once Rugby had raced to a two goal lead within the first quarter of an hour of the game – the outcome was never really in doubt.
Ben George retained the right-back berth he had occupied in the previous Birmingham Senior Cup tie against Burton, with Robbie Banks again amongst the Town substitutes.
The visitors could have been ahead after just two minutes when Egham keeper James Norris pulled off a great save to deny Alex Gudger’s volley to a Sam Youngs’ free-kick, but it was not long before the deadlock was broken with Youngs again the provider when his shot was deflected into the net by David Kolodynski.
Seb Lake-Gaskin then increased the advantage from the spot on fifteen minutes after full-back Ben George had been upended in the box by Mo Harkin.
Kolodynski lobbed one just over the bar from fully 35 yards, before Egham gave themselves a lifeline – courtesy of a questionable penalty decision, with Reis Stanislaus converting it past Nick Bennion, after the Valley stopper had been harshly adjudged to have fouled Louis Chandler-Joseph.
However Kolodynski ensured that Rugby held a two goal lead again at the interval though, when he ran onto Richard Blythe's through ball to skip round Norris and coolly slot home.
Kolodynski had a goal disallowed for offside shortly after the restart, before Valley put the result beyond doubt, when Lake-Gaskin burst down the right to then pick out Will Grocott - who powered the ball past Norris and into the roof of the net.
Apart from a parried save to a Stanislaus effort, Bennion was not fully extended thereafter, and Rugby comfortably saw out the game – with Kolodynski having a few further opportunities to add to his personal tally, the best of which seeing him somehow failing to convert a close range header.
Norris also pulled off a fine save to Craig Kelly's long range effort late on.
