Gary Mills' new-look Rugby Town side played out a draw in their first pre-season friendly at Northamptonshire-based UCL side Cogenhoe.
Valley's hosts, who finished 6th in the UCL Premier last season (one level below Rugby), were tough physical opposition at a warm Brafield Road.
With just four last season's squad involved for Valley, there are a lot of new faces for the Rugby faithful to get used to.
The first half was a dour affair as players from both sides looked to get their match sharpness back but it was Cogenhoe who threated more in the opening period.
The Cooks took the lead near the end of the first half when the host's winger escaped the attentions of Valley right back Ben Jackson and crossed for Jack Bowen to slide in at the far post and find the roof of the net from close range.
The second period was a far more open affair and Rugby started to create in the final third and moments after Mason Rowley made a superb goal-line clearance, Valley equalised.
Substitute full back Tom Glasscoe provided a deep cross from the right which was met at the far post with a diving header from fellow substitute and ex-St Ives forward Will Muzumbiri to level the match.
Rugby had a few efforts from the edge of the area notably from winger Callum Powell and substitute midfielder Joe Curtis which either narrowly missed the target or forced comfortable saves while the hosts' profligate finishing at the other end ensured the score remained 1-1.
