Rugby Town closed out the season with a comfortable final day victory over Loughborough University at Butlin Road.
Leading by a single goal at half time thanks to David Kolodynski's early header, Valley went on to add another four within a twenty minute period in the second half to seal an easy win - before the Students grabbed two late consolations.
Town shuffled their limited pack for the end-of-season sign off, with Mason Rowley and Aiden Print making rare starts in place of Sean Castleton and the injured Stuart Hendrie – whilst Sam Beasley was also preferred to Sam Belcher in a midfield role.
The hosts were ahead with just six minutes on the clock, when Kolodynski flicked a header past Jake King, after Josh Ruff’s near post corner had picked him out.
Beasley then showed nice feet before striking the inside of the post from twenty yards out, with John Mills drawing a decent parried save from King to his rasping effort from the edge of the area – as Town looked to make their early superiority count further.
Kolodynski ballooned one over after good play by Print down the left hand side and Ruff also steered a good chance high of the target just before the break - after Harry Holloway had done well to set him up.
The visitors had been restricted to just one half chance for Alex Read in that opening period, but they had the first opportunity of the new half when Rowley blocked out Cameron Gordon’s shot.
However once Ruff had opened the floodgates on 50 minutes with a lovely shot into the corner of the net after he had surged forwards with the ball, the game’s destiny was never really in doubt.
Kolodynski made it three-nil on the hour mark when he rounded King to score, after Ruff had dissected the away defence to play him in, and then shortly after Ruff was again involved in the build-up play to another Rugby goal when his well-delivered deep cross found Kolodynski in the area, and his lay-off into the path of Harry Holloway saw the midfielder claim his first league goal for the club.
Town’s fifth was soon on the board too, when Print seized upon a loose ball on the edge of the box, before striking one low past King.
There was almost another Valley hat-trick for Kolodynski, but he volleyed just over after Holloway’s excellent chipped pass, before the University outfit pulled one back when Alex Dinsmore fired home after the Rugby defence had failed to clear their lines properly.
Kolodynski missed another good chance for his treble when he headed over, with Loughborough then scoring again on 83 minutes when substitute Joe Boachie curled one into the top corner.
Ruff almost capped a fine individual display with his second of the game late on, but his powerful shot was tipped wide by King after he had turned his man inside and out.
