10-man Rugby Town progressed to the Second Round of the UCL League Cup with a hard-fought win over Division One side Bugbrooke St Michaels.
New striker Dylan Parker scored early in each half including a spectacular volley for his second as Rugby had to play a man light for the majority of the game after captain Loyiso Recci's sending off midway thorugh the first half.
Manager Carl Adams named a strong side against Bugbrooke who had won all of their league games so far this season with just one change from the win over Wellingborough Town as Dan White returned to the starting line-up in place of injured defender Jamal Clarke.
Rugby made a strong start and were ahead inside five minutes when Parker opened his account for the club with a smart finish at the near post from Charlie Evans' low cross.
But the game took a turn on the half hour mark when Rugby captain Recci was given a straight red card for bringing down the Bugbrooke striker with the referee adjudicating he was the last man and preventing a goalscoring opportunity.
Parker grabbed his second for the ten men in glorious fashion shortly after half time when he unleashed a cracking volley from 25 yards which flew into the net after a corner had been cleared.
Bugbrooke got one back with ten minutes to go with Jake Bettles getting on the scoresheet to put some pressure on late on but Rugby held out to progress.
