Town finally found their pre-season scoring feet in blasting away their third MFL opponents of the warm-up campaign at Butlin Road.
The gates were once more closed to spectators and Carl Adams made one change to his starting line-up from the previous friendly with James Hancocks returning to midfield - allowing a first opportunity of the campaign up front for Charlie Evans.
The hosts were soon ahead when Ryan Seal curled a trademark free-kick around the defensive wall and into the net, after Justin Marsden had been fouled near the edge of the penalty area.
Romulus were then gifted an equaliser after keeper Sam Lomax could only weakly parry a speculative shot into the path of the centre-forward, who applied a simple finish.
Marsden blazed one over, Cain Thomas had shot blocked and Evans was twice denied by the visiting keeper, as Rugby went on to dominate the first half action.
Therefore it was no surprise to see them take a lead into the interval, after a Roms defender could only divert a powerfully-drilled centre by Marsden into his own net.
Marsden himself made it three not long after the restart when he finished off a well-worked move with a neat finish.
The visitors finally offered a brief spell of attacking resistance, but Liam Francis was on-hand to block a on-target effort on the goal-line and second half replacement keeper Matt Hill ably dealt with a couple of further strikes from the away side.
Town were soon kicking on again though, with Evans making it four when he arrowed one into the top corner after good play out wide by Lee Thomas.
Dylan Parker's strike for number five was even more impressive, with his half volley from distance sailing beyond the reach of the keeper.
Caine Elliott capped another fine performance when he steered the ball home after another incisive move from Valley. Lewis Padmore then struck the upright, with the same player denied by the woodwork shortly after - allowing Parker an easy tap in for Rugby's seventh of the night.
