Rugby Town completed a comfortable victory at Freeway Park to halt a run of three successive away league defeats.
Danico Johnson's first half-strike and a Ryan Seal penalty on 71 minutes secured Valley a deserved and much-needed three point haul on a miserably wet afternoon in Leicestershire.
Manager Carl Adams kept faith with the same team which played out an entertaining draw with Quorn in the week, although he did tweak his formation a little with Caine Elliott initially lining up in the middle of a defensive back three.
Town started the brighter with both Elliott and the ever dangerous Dylan Parker having early efforts go off target.
However it wasn't long before they took the lead in the 14th minute after the marauding Lee Thomas bombed down the wing and his precise cross was met by Johnson who controlled and guided the ball into the net from close range despite the presence of an Oadby defender.
The home side responded quickly to the goal, but Olajim Ayoola's wide header in the 17th minute was their only meaningful effort towards goal across the entire game with Sam Lomax very rarely threatened.
Rugby continued to push in the first half with Johnson seeing his shot go high over the bar after good work from Keenah Rosser and Parker going close just before half time.
Town should have had a great start to the second half when they were awarded a penalty in the 48th minute, after Liam Francis was fouled in the area by Oadby's captain Cameron Power.
However it was not the best spot kick by Parker and keeper Andrew Carthy got a hand to it, with the ball then falling nicely to the penalty taker but he could only smash the rebound against the post.
Rugby's number nine had a number of subsequent efforts to make amends for his double miss and get on the scoresheet, but his final touch either let him down or his end-product was off target.
Valley completed the victory with eighteen minutes remaining though, when they were awarded another penalty after Johnson was brought down in the box and this time it was converted successfully by Ryan Seal into the bottom corner.
Johnson nearly got his second in the closing stages but his shot was just over, but it turned out to be a successful afternoon for Town despite the dreadful conditions.
