Valley finished their pre-season campaign with a draw against Gresley Rovers at Butlin Road.
It was a entertaining final friendly with plenty of chances before the action starts for both sides in their respective leagues on Tuesday evening with Rugby hosting Lutterworth Town.
Both goals were scored from corners inside the opening quarter of the game as Valley captain Loyiso Recci cancelled out Oli Bailey's early opener.
Rugby manager Carl Adams was almost able to choose from a full squad ahead of the season opener with the exception of Charlie Evans, Keenah Rosser, Justin Marsden, Kurtis Revan and Liam Francis.
The first goal went to the visitors as Valley goalkeeper Ben Newey got caught underneath the ball when attempting to claim a corner with the ball ricocheting off a couple of players before falling to Bailey who stabbed into the net from close range.
Rugby were soon level as Loyiso volleyed into the net from six yards after David Kolodynski had flicked on a James Hancocks' corner.
Valley had a strong period after this as Josh Thomas crashed a shot off the underside of the bar from 20 yards after a neat one-two with David Kolodynski before Gresley goalkeeper Fenney made an excellent double save from first Dylan Parker and then Danico Johnson.
Max Johnson headed over from a corner before Parker was centimetres away from Danico's cross from the right as Rugby continued to press in the first half.
Newey had to be out sharply at the feet of Rovers striker McDonald on the angle after he had been slipped through in the area.
Kolodynski perhaps should have done better when he was found unmarked seven yards out by substitute Barry Fitzharris' cross from the right but he could only direct his header over the bar.
Gresley defender Morris directed a first time shot off target after a high ball was sent into the box before Danico lifted a first time shot over the bar after good play by Parker down the right.
Danico continued to cause problems for the Gresley defence as he engineered himself a chance in the area before seeing his powerful left-footed shot well saved.
Rugby were then awarded a penalty when the same Gresley defender contrived to foul both Danico and Kolodynski on the edge of the area before the latter stepped up to see the spotkick saved.
Max curled a first time shot just wide from the edge of the area after Kolodynski had dummied Parker's low cross from the right.
More good work from Parker down the right resulted in maybe the easiest chance of the game for substitute Melu Mpande but he could only lift his shot over the bar from the centre of the goal inside the six yard box.
