Town came through a potential banana skin affair by running out comfortable victors at a blowy Wigston Road.
Adam Shaw scored twice on his full debut for the club, with Max Johnson and Edwin Ahenkorah also on target for a Rugby squad missing a number of key players on the day.
With David Kolodynski unavailable and Danico Johnson suspended alongside a number of other injured players, Valley recalled Melu Mpande after nearly a three month absence and Barry Fitzharris was also back in the starting line-up for the first time in five matches.
Rugby almost made a disastrous start to the game though, when Mussa Bham pounced on a short pass from Mpande to Caine Elliott and ended up with a clear run on goal, but fortunately keeper Ash Bodycote did well to keep out Bham's subsequent effort.
Bodycote was again in good form to parry Ben Sault's shot, with the hosts just unable to take advantage of the rebound. Town's first real foray forward came shortly after, when Shaw did well to beat his man down the right wing only to see his attempted cross cut-out by an Oadby defender.
Bham was denied again by Bodycote's feet when he struck one from a tight angle, as the home side looked to be dealing better with the bobbly surface.
However Valley broke the deadlock against the run of the play when Johnson picked out Shaw's run into the left channel, and the debutant did well to hold the ball up before adding a composed finish past GNG keeper Charlie Andrews.
Once Bodycote had pulled out another fine reflex save to Andre Williams's point blank header, it was pretty much one way traffic up until the half time whistle.
Fitzharris volleyed one over on 23 minutes, with Mpande then putting in a dangerous cross from the left, as the visitors started to threaten the home goal more frequently.
Town's second came from an excellent free-kick strike by Johnson from fully thirty yards, with the ball sailing beyond Andrews's outstretched fingers before bouncing down off the crossbar and marginally over the line.
Ahenkorah then grabbed another in first half stoppage time, when he seized upon a poor back pass by Williams to neatly clip the ball home.
Oadby made a decent enough start to the new period though, with Zico Thandi firing one over the bar, Bodycote down well to push Camen Bhandal's shot around the post and the Town keeper also gathering Bham's tame effort from the edge of the area.
Rugby put the game to bed on 65 minutes, when Ahenkorah's cross into the box ultimately fell to Shaw to poke home thanks to a wicked deflection which left Andrews stranded.
The Leicester based club did then gain some deserved reward for their second half efforts though, when Thandi finally beat Bodycote with his near post flicked header to Nuno Monteiro's corner.
Valley went on to create a handful of half chances for their fifth, with substitute Madundo Semahimbo and James Hancocks blocked out after Johnson's had whipped in a free kick and Shaw missing out on his hat-trick when he headed a Hancocks pull back wide of the target.
Semahimbo almost marked his first appearance in a Rugby shirt with a goal late on, but he powered his strike onto the upright after Elliott had broken quickly before setting him up.
