Valley made it four league wins in a row with another needlessly narrow victory over Rothwell Corinthians at Butlin Road.
Although they scored three on the day, Rugby were again guilty of missing a further half a dozen gilt-edged opportunities to make life much easier, but instead they had to endure a nervy final few minutes to see out the match.
Town boss Carl Adams made two changes to the side that had started against Oadby four days earlier, with Max Johnson and James Hancocks recalled in place of Barry Fitzharris and Liam Francis.
The hosts could have been one-up within the opening minute, when skipper Loyiso Recci was handed the chance to do so from the penalty spot after Dylan Parker's delivery had been handled in the box.
However unlike in that Oadby victory, this time Recci's side-footed spot kick was kept out by Jude O'Connor.
Further chances came Town's way, with O'Connor parrying Justin Marsden's rising strike, Kurtis Revan putting a good opportunity wide and O'Connor again in decent form to save Dylan Parker's near post effort.
The inevitable goal did come on seventeen minutes though, when Marsden scored his first for the club in six years when he headed home a Hancocks' free-kick.
Rugby's dominance continued, and Marsden almost added his second after a Recci nod-on from a corner, but this time O'Connor was equal to his effort.
Instead it was the visitors who got themselves back on level terms, after Town keeper Ben Newey made a hash of a long Corinthians ball which culminated in him bringing down an attacker in the box to give Callum Traynor the chance to score from the spot - which he duly did.
Valley then twice hit the woodwork through Johnson and Parker, before David Kolodynski restored their lead after a well-worked move which saw Parker play in his strike partner to shoot home off the post.
O'Connor's acrobatic save to Revan's long range shot kept the margin down to a single goal ahead of the interval, but the new half was only two minutes old when Kolodynski grabbed his second and Rugby's third by finishing off another Parker assist from the left flank.
Ryan Archer's close range header on 54 minutes meant it was not going to be a straightforward final third of the game for Rugby however, and Town appeared to somewhat lose their way for a while.
Within that period of play, Newey pulled a good save to deny Zac Allen, but then the home side finally created a few chances of their own, with Marsden just missing out on two occasions and sub Charlie Evans dragging one narrowly wide of the target.
It was Evans who then missed a great chance to seal the match, but he overhit his shot after Kolodynski and Parker had broken quickly. Newey then saved from Ellis Ogle at the death to ensure the points were Rugby's.
