Caine Elliott's extra time goal put Rugby Town through to the FA Cup Second Qualifying Round with a deserved victory at Butlin Road against higher league Grantham Town.
Following on from the pulsating 3-3 encounter between the two sides three days earlier, the near 300 crowd had to wait 104 minutes before the tie was finally settled, with Valley earning themselves a trip to Southern League Premier Basford in the process.
Drew Kear replaced Luke English at right-wing back after his impactful contribution from the bench in the original tie in the only change to Rugby's starting line-up, with the Gingerbreads making three changes to theirs.
The visitors started brightly, with Loyiso Recci executing a well-timed tackle to thwart Freddie McGrady in a dangerous position in the box.
At the other end, David Kolodynski twice set-up Justin Marsden with neat lay-offs, but his first strike was pushed away by keeper Dan Haystead and the second was deflected wide of the target.
Ashton Hall then floated a cross just past Matt Hill's goal frame, with another troubling delivery into the box by Charlie Jemson cleared away by Keenah Rosser, as Grantham looked to break the deadlock.
Hall's looping header drifted over, before Valley finished the first half in more convincing fashion with Madundo Semahimbo having a shot blocked and Kolodynski lifting over from six yards out after Marsden had squared the ball across to him.
Whilst the first opportunity of the new period fell to the away side, when Hill was down well to palm Harry Wood's low strike around the post, it was the hosts that were largely on top thereafter.
Semahimbo curled one into Haystead's hands from twenty yards, and Barry Fitzharris shot wide from a similar distance. Elliott had his effort blocked, with Kear and Recci's strikes then suffering the same fate in quick succession.
Aside from a couple of half chances for Saturday's last gasp equaliser scoring Jonathan Wafula, it was Rugby that looked the more likely to take advantage of the many tiring legs and consequential errors from this.
This moment nearly came when Rugby were just unable to take advantage of a goalmouth scramble, with Elliott and Kolodynski two of the players failing to force the loose ball over the line.
Haystead then spilled a well-struck effort by Town sub Alex Lock, but unfortunately there was no-one following up, with another Fitzharris wayward strike from distance representing Valley's last chance of normal time after neat build-up play from them.
Rugby started off the first period of extra time in the same confident vein though, and Dan Summerfield was soon having a shot to Recci's pull-back blocked.
Kolodynski's free-kick saw Haystead juggling the ball away for a corner, and then Kear flashed a dangerous cross across the face of the goal.
The breakthrough finally came with the end of the first period of extra time fast approaching, after Elliott surged forward to launch a fairly innocuous looking shot that somehow squirmed under Haystead's body and over the line.
Town defended stoutly for the remainder of the match, restricting the visitors to scraps and hopeful pumped balls into the penalty area.
Robbie Atkin and Sisa Tuntulwana both sent efforts over in the closing minutes, but Valley deservedly held out for the win.
