Rugby Town were pegged back from a two-goal lead as hosts Westfields forced a replay in the Extra Preliminary Round of the FA Cup in Hereford.
A clinical first half display had seen an unchanged Rugby enjoy the advantage at the interval thanks to strikes from Edwin Ahenkorah and Ryan Seal, but an injury to Valley defender Josh Thomas not long into the new period acted as a catalyst for the Westfields comeback and the visitors were very much hanging on to the draw come the end of the game.
Ahenkorah had given Town the perfect start after just three minutes when David Kolodynski held the ball up well in the box before teeing up his strike partner for a crisp left-footed finish.
The home side nearly made a quick response though, but Dan Stoneman's cross was just too high for Jack Gittoes to be able to fashion a meaningful effort, whilst at the other end Kolodynski's weak shot at goal followed a decent Rugby attacking play that had included Caine Elliott and Ahenkorah.
Elliott's first-time volley then flew wide of the target, before an exceptional free-kick from the edge of the area by Seal gave Fields' keeper Ian Harvard no chance as Town doubled their advantage on the half hour mark.
The warning signs were there for Rugby ahead the break though, with Matt Hill at full stretch in tipping Kyle Cassell's deflected strike onto the frame and Barry Fitzharris later executing a good block to deny Harry Pitman.
Once Thomas had limped off with a nasty-looking injury, Town failed to really settle into the second half, and Westfields exposed this uncertainty on a number of occasions in wide positions but ultimately failed to deliver an accurate enough cross each time.
Kolodynski's strike from more than twenty yards was taken comfortably by Harvard in a rare Rugby foray forward, with Hill then preserving the two goal advantage with a near post save to Stoneman's attempt from a tight angle.
The home crowd did not have to wait too long for a goal though, with Cassell scoring with a rebound effort after Elliott had initially cleared one off his own goal-line.
Rugby's best spell of the half saw Seal denied by a Harvard stop at the near post and Ahenkorah blaze one high and wide, but increasingly Westfields dominated proceedings and they got their reward on 75 minutes when Matt McDonald matched Seal's dead-ball exploits when he curled his free-kick home off the underside of the bar.
Stoneman then twice struck the woodwork, as the hosts sensed a comeback victory could be theirs, with Sean Powell also putting one over the bar and substitute Adam Wakley fluffing a decent opportunity with a poor shot straight at Hill.
Town did create one last chance for an improbable victory late-on when Dan Summerfield picked out Seal in the box, but 32 year old was unable to trouble Harvard with his shot.
