Rugby Town played out a fairly uneventful goal-less draw in their penultimate pre-season friendly at NPL Division One side Bedworth United.
Ahead of the start of the season in a week's time against Cogenhoe United at Butlin Road, manager Carl Adams again had positives to take out of the game with a clean sheet at higher division opposition despite Valley not creating too many clear cut chances.
22-year-old trialist striker Harry Wakefield (formerly of Shepshed, Bedworth, Nuneaton, Stratford and Basford among others) was given a starting berth while David Kolodynski, Caine Elliott, Dan Summerfield and Ash Bodycote returning to the starting line-up.
There was another appearance off the bench for another trialist Kaylum Mitchell while Bedworth's line-up included a number of ex-Valley players including Richard Blythe, Sam Lomax and Jazz Luckie.
Rugby's only meaningful shot on goal in the first period came early on through a Kolodynski effort which lack power from inside the area and was easily saved by Lomax.
Bedworth should have then took the lead when Dan Summerfield's soft back-pass provided a perfect throughball for the Greenbacks striker but Bodycote was off his line to stop the one-on-one effort.
Bodycote made another two very good saves in the first half to keep Bedworth at bay including one from Luckie on the angle inside the penalty area and then when Bodycote was beaten by a floated shot from outside the area the crossbar came to the rescue for Rugby.
Second half Valley goalkeeper Matt Hill then made a couple of saves - firstly after Liam Francis' slip gave a Bedworth striker a run on goal and then from his own poor clearance from which he just about managed to recover to make the save.
Summerfield did have a rare glimpse at the Bedworth goal late on after a good run and link-up with Justin Marsden but he could not quite get his shot away and the ball was blocked for a corner.
