Valley secured a comfortable local derby victory over Coventry United in front of a bumper Butlin Road crowd thanks to two early goals.
Strikes within the opening five minutes of play from Caine Elliott and Madundo Semahimbo extended Town's unbeaten start to the UCL campaign to six matches to lift them level on points at the top of the Premier South Division.
Rugby were unchanged from the midweek 7-0 demolition of Rothwell, and the confidence gained from that victory was evident from the off.
The hosts were ahead with only a minute on the clock, after Ryan Seal's perfectly weighted chipped pass played in David Kolodynksi, who held the ball up well before laying up Elliott for a composed low finish into the corner past United keeper Kris Roscoe.
Town skipper Loyiso Recci was soon firing a deflected effort just wide of the post, and from Seal's resulting corner Valley extended their lead when Semahimbo headed home from close range after Liam Francis's initial header had clipped off Recci into the scorer's path.
The visitors responded well to the early double setback though, with Kyle Carey executing a poor shot after he had done well on the turn to create the opening and Jarad Bradshaw also missing his chance.
Bradshaw had a further opportunity, but was denied by a decent save from Matt Hill, with the Town defenders appealing for a push in the back in the build-up play.
Rugby regained the initiative after this series of let-offs, and pushed hard to add a third ahead of the interval.
Seal struck the intersection of the woodwork after Kolodynski had set him up and then with the roles reversed, Seal put Kolodynski through the middle of an increasingly open Coventry back-line - only to see his eventual shot saved by Roscoe.
Francis's reaching header to Seal's free-kick represented another good opportunity for the home side, whilst Drew Kear had two further chances before the break - first wildly shooting off-target and then drawing a good low stop from Roscoe.
Roscoe was back in the action shortly after the restart with another impressive save to Semahimbo's strike from Barry Fitzharris's lofted delivery.
United did still offer some level of threat at the other end, with Herbert blocked out after a good run from substitute Sean Wills.
Elliott side-footed one into Roscoe's arms, before Francis had a goal ruled-out for a borderline offside decision after Kolodynski's initial effort had been saved.
Seal flashed a volley wide, as chances continue to come Town's way, although Hill needed to be on form to pull off a fine double save to thwart Archie Gallagher.
Seal and Josh Thomas were then both denied again by Roscoe, with the busy visiting keeper also keeping out Thomas Fielding's flick to Fitzharris's free-kick late on to ensure it was only a two goal margin defeat for his side.
