Valley romped to a big victory over Godmanchester Rovers to record an 11th successive league win and extend the lead at the top of the UCL Premier Division South.
Town had established a four-goal advantage by the interval courtesy of Luke English, David Kolodynski, Loyiso Recci and Caine Elliott, before the visitors reduced the arrears shortly after the restart.
Jordan Wilson was soon getting the Rugby goal train running again though when scoring for the sixth game on the trot, with substitute Madundo Semahimbo's brace rounding things off before the end.
Keenah Rosser and Barry Fitzharris were both back into Town's starting eleven, with Edwin Ahenkorah replacing Dan Summerfield - who had been stretchered off with a foot injury four days previously at Cogenhoe.
The hosts were ahead with just 43 seconds on the clock, after Kolodynski had fed English on the edge of the penalty area and the Valley wing-back launched a great strike into the back of the net off the underside of the crossbar.
Rovers responded well to this very early setback, and looked to threaten a few times on the break - with Matty Allan volleying straight at Matt Hill on one such occasion.
Meanwhile Kolodynski put a good chance onto the roof of the net and then he nearly played in his strike partner Wilson as Rugby probed for another goal.
English's header to a Ryan Seal free-kick was directed straight at Godmanchester keeper George Whitehall, whilst at the other end Elliott did well in tracking back to halt a potentially dangerous rapid attack from the visitors.
English turned provider for Town's second strike of the afternoon on 24 minutes when he flashed a ball across the face of the goal to set Kolodynski up for a close range finish.
Rosser and Recci doubled up to thwart Allan's attempt to get in again behind the Valley defence, before a near identical delivery into the box from English at the other end was this time helped over the bar by Kolodynski.
It was only a temporary let-off for the away side though, with Wilson being pulled down by Rob Ruddy in the box to provide Recci with the opportunity to stroke home from the spot past a now stand-in keeper Richard Chadwick - who had taken charge of the gloves after Whitehall had been dispatched for ten minutes in the sin bin for dissent following the award of the penalty.
Chadwick remained relatively untested for the remainder of his spell between the sticks, until Rob Ruddy headed a clearance straight to Elliott in first-half stoppage time and the midfielder instinctively lobbed it back over his head and across the line to make it four-nil at the break.
However the visitors pulled one back in the first attack of the new period, when Declan Rogers finished off a cross from the left by Mo Hammaz.
Allan almost added another as his side's bright start to the half continued, but his effort from a tight angle was kept out by the legs of Hill.
Town soon regained the initiative though, with Wilson having a volley at close range blocked out, and from that point on it was one-way traffic for pretty much the remainder of the game.
Wilson added Rugby's fifth on 52 minutes with a deflected shot past the reinstalled Whitehall after Semahimbo's had set him up, and then Semahimbo himself found the net with a close-range strike to Elliott's cross four minutes later.
Whitehall denied Wilson his second of the afternoon with a decent stop, after English had released the striker with a long through ball, with Whitehead also testing the keeper with his header to an Ahenkorah cross.
Godmanchester's afternoon deteriorated further when Matt Green was dismissed for denying Semahimbo a goalscoring opportunity, with Town continuing to turn the screw on the opposition in search of their seventh.
Francis's shot on the turn was kept-out by Whitehall and then Whitehead's on-target effort was blocked on the line, before the goal finally came on 84 minutes when Semahimbo shrugged off his marker to cut in and shoot past Whitehall.
