Valley slipped to defeat at Leicester-based side Aylestone Park in their third pre-season friendly.
Carl Adams' included new summer signing Kyle Burke for his first pre-season outing although it was shortlived due to an injury forcing him off midway through the first half.
The starting XI also included a couple of trialists in the shape of former youth striker Mason Platts as well as Bermudian international midfielder Roger Lee who once appeared for Valley back in 2015.
Adams was without the services of Keenah Rosser, Edwin Ahenkorah, Loyiso Recci and Tom Fielding.
Both sides put on a decent display in extremely windy conditions at the newly promoted United Counties League Premier Division South side although the game was disrupted due to further injuries to Josh Thomas, Dan Summerfield and Jordan Wilson while David Kolodynski was sinbinned in the opening exchanges too.
The hosts took the lead when a hosrt corner routine resulted in the Aylestone player having too much room cutting in from the right before sending a left-footed shot across a crowded box into the corner.
Rugby were level when a good turn and pass from Platts found substitute Dan Summerfield who found the bottom corner from 20 yards with a precise strike.
Aylestone re-took the lead with a rasping 25-yard low strike while Ryan Sahota came close for Valley on a couple of occassions in the first half with a deflected strike which went narrowly over and a powerful header from Summerfield's cross which which was off target.
Rugby missed a number of good chances early in the second half with Jordan Wilson coming close three times and David Kolodynski and Summerfield seeing headers off target.
Aylestone got a third goal when they got in behind the Valley defence before squaring for a simple finish.
