Valley put in a solid display to claim their first win of pre-season against Southern League Premier Central side Leamington.
Rugby's Warwickshire neighbours were relegated last season from the National League North while Rugby were promoted but Valley's performance on the day belied the remaining one-divisional gap in level.
Valley pounced on Leamington's possession high up the pitch to score three well taken goals and defended solidly throughout.
Rugby were still without a number of players with Keenah Rosser, Alex Lock, Ryan Sahota and Dan Summerfield all on holiday with Kyle Burke and Edwin Ahenkorah both injured.
The starting XI saw a first appearance of pre-season for Tom Fielding while trialist midfielder Rico Taylor also featured.
Striker Jordan Wilson opened his account for pre-season early on when he finished off well after a neat interchange between David Kolodynski and Fielding.
Kolodynski doubled the lead just after half time with a brilliant curled finish from the edge of the area.
The scoring was completed in stoppage time when trialist substitute Karabo Motshweni drilled in a fine low strike from 20 yards.
