Rugby Town took home the Boxing Day spoils against Gresley Rovers at Butlin Road in a key game at the bottom of thr table.
Two first-half goals within six minutes from David Kolodynski and Justice Campbell did the trick as Valley ended their run of five successive losses to leapfrog Gresley out of the relegation zone in the process.
Town boss Carl Adams rang the changes for his side's second outing of the Christmas break with James Mace, Justice Campbell, Roger Lee and Madundo Semahimbo all on from the off in place of Liam Francis, Ryan Sahota, Chris Clements and Drew Kear.
The hosts started brightly and they were unlucky not to take an early lead when Campbell's free-kick pinged down off the underside of the crossbar after David Kolodynski had been fouled outside of the penalty area.
Kolodynski then put in a shot of his own from an improbable angle, before Gresley registered their first shot of the game when Kieran O'Connell's effort deflected wide.
Another deflected strike followed at the other end when Campbell put one into the arms of Rovers' keeper Harvey Woodward from Jordan Wilson's lay back, and then Semahimbo also failed to significantly stretch Woodward with his curler.
Kolodynski made it two goals in two games with Rugby's opener on 35 minutes though, when he pounced on a loose defensive pass to guide one beyond the reach of Woodward from just outside the box.
Gresley striker Jamie Sleigh then shot wide from a similar position to Kolodynski's successful contribution, before Campbell doubled the scoreline with his first goal for the club by neatly finishing off another Wilson assist following hesitancy in the Gresley defence.
John King dragged one wide and O'Connell missed out on a headed chance, as the visitors failed in their attempts to reduce the deficit ahead of the half-time whistle.
Rugby made another decent start to the new period though, with sub Chris Clements curling a free-kick straight at Woodward and a surging run by Josh Thomas from the back ended with Wilson clipping the post with his strike - but the official was flagging for offside anyway.
The visitors then enjoyed their most productive period of the match, with Sleigh having three separate opportunities to peg Town back.
His first shot was blocked away, his second comfortably taken by Tomasz Bukowski and a third found the side netting, although in the midst of these, Woodward had to cling tight onto Kolodynski's powerful effort from near the byline.
Having dealt with the Rovers mini-rally, Town looked to properly put the game to bed, with Semahimbo squirting a shot wide and Clements seeing his dangerous cross cleared away.
Haydn Brown lifted over a blasted cross from Josh Egginton in another escape for Valley, with the final clear-cut chance of the match falling to Semahimbo after he had tricked his way across the box only to find an opportunity to get a meaningful shot off restricted by the bodies blocking his path.
