Trey Charles' late penalty earned Valley a point against ten-man Long Eaton United at Grange Park.
Charles extended Town's unbeaten run to three matches when he slotted his penalty past makeshift keeper Owen Betts for his 13th goal of the season after the hosts had played for almost an hour a man light following regular stopper Lewis King's sending off.
Valley skipper Josh Thomas returned at centre-back after he had missed the draw at Grantham through suspension, with Tayo Tucker preferred to Hilton Arthur in a wide role in the only other change from the long trip to Lincolnshire.
The first chance of the game fell to the hosts after just two minutes when James Taylor's cross/shot drifted just wide of the post, but Rugby also went close when Charles ran onto Nee's ball over the top before failing to fully lift his lobbed effort over King.
Long Eaton soon made the early breakthrough though, when Ryan Campbell-Gordon's run into the box ended with a strike that squirmed through Paul Hathaway's body to hand Callum Cocks a straightforward tap-in on five minutes.
Hathaway redeemed himself shortly after with a good reaction save to deny Betts at the far post after Campbell-Gordon had again done well on the left wing.
Cocks's dipping shot from fully thirty yards sailed marginally over, and Archie White poked one wide from the edge of the area as the hosts' dominance continued, with Liam Loughlan also sending his effort off-target.
However, the dynamic of the game changed on 32 minutes after Charles had sped on to a searching ball forward from Chris Clements, and having beat King to it, he was taken down by the keeper out wide - resulting in the referee deciding to send the Long Eaton keeper off for denying a goalscoring opportunity.
Betts replaced King between the sticks, but safely guarded his goal for the remainder of the half, with Dan Summerfield's teasing cross the only threatening moment of note just before the interval.
Clements did send an effort wide of the target five minutes after the restart, with Charles then thwarted by a marginal offside call when he looked to break through the middle of the home defence, as Valley started the new half relatively brightly.
Ayo Lekuiti fizzed a dangerous ball across the box, but no-one was able to connect to it, with Evan Garnett's touch then letting him down at the other end as he looked to double Long Eaton's lead.
Cocks's thunderbolt pinged back off the bar with Hathaway beaten, before an even tighter offside call denied Charles a goal after he had finished off Tayo Tucker's cross.
Another Tucker cross narrowly missed its targets in the box, with Tyreace Brown's ambitious shot from distance also not troubling the stand-in stopper Betts.
Taylor flashed one across the face of Hathaway's goal as a reminder of the threat the home side held, with Thomas also called into action with a couple of vital defensive blocks to thwart Garnett.
Hilton Arthur was then denied an equaliser after he had ran onto fellow sub Ethan O'Toole's pass - only to see his shot cleared away from the goalmouth, whilst White was another unable to finish things off after rounding Hathaway at the other end.
The leveller came from the spot on 89 minutes when Charles sent Betts the wrong way after Summerfield had been nudged in the back by White as he looked to run onto Clements's lofted pass.
The game's final shot saw Arthur send one way over the bar, but in the end a draw was probably a fair result on the day.
