Valley were pegged back after leading at half time to eventually draw with Loughborough Students at Butlin Road.

Harrison Nee's 24th minute strike had given Town a deserved lead, but the university side improved markedly following a double substitution at the break and grabbed an equaliser just past the hour mark to maintain their good run of results of late.

Josh Thomas and Trey Charles replaced Liam Francis and Chris Clements in the Rugby starting line-up in two changes from their previous outing at home to Corby ten days earlier, with Ryan Sahota returning to the bench after a three and a half week absence following a concussion injury.

The hosts started brightly, and Charles tested Loughborough keeper George Baker early doors after Ayo Lekuti had surged in from the left, but Town's leading scorer's shot lacked power and was comfortably gathered by Baker.

Charles then whipped a further effort wide from the right hand side, before the visitors nearly opened the scoring when Josh Strouts pounced on a mistake from Tyreace Brown to bear down on goal, but he was denied by a decent stop from the legs of Town keeper Paul Hathaway.

Dan Summerfield scuffed one wide as the culmination of a neat team move from Rugby, with a further free-flowing Valley attack ending with Baker pushing Charles's effort behind for a corner.

Nee did find the net though when he bounced his volley into the ground and ultimately past a diving Baker after Caine Elliott's corner had fallen nicely at his feet ten yards from goal.

Jahvan Davidson-Miller had an opportunity to double Town's tally with a strike from the edge of the box - but Baker saved down low, before Loughborough ended the half with their best spell of it - with Summerfield clearing one dangerous ball into the box, Davidson-Miller doing well to keep out a well-struck shot into his midriff and the Students' skipper Halim Bangura also denied by a defensive block.

The introductions of James Cook and Quinton Zolani Dlodlo on the restart gave the visitors further impetus though, with Hussein Issa in particular causing the Town back-line a problem with his trickery.

Strouts fired one way over early into the new period, and a dangerous cross from the right by Issa was cut out, before Isa's shot from the edge of the area saw Hathaway down quickly to save.

The strength of Charles on the touchline helped create a good opening for himself after Elliott had threaded the ball onto him in a rare attacking highlight for Town, but his powerful rising strike was ably tipped over by Baker.

Davidson-Miller and Nee also both went close in the same phase of play - with the former smothered out in the box before the latter guided the rebound marginally wide.

However, Loughborough continued to impress with their speed of movement and thought, and Issa should have done better after he had robbed Brown of the ball, but instead of shooting he chose to square to Strouts - who in turn comfortably missed the target with his attempt.

Dlodlo curled one wide from twenty yards after a jinking run, before Town's advantage was wiped out when Isa showed impressively quick feet to ease past Sahota and Nee to fire past Hathaway into the bottom corner from twenty yards.

Rugby responded well to the set-back, and Charles's shot from a tight angle was kept out by Baker, with Elliott bundling his volley just the wrong side of the post.

Joseph Akansamni's well-struck effort was deflected wide, before a long period followed where neither side were able to fashion a clear cut chance of note.

Loughborough sub Dylan Reason did shoot one high and wide of the target late on though, with the final strike of the game falling to Nee in added-time, but under pressure from his marker, he could only drag his low shot the wrong side of the upright.
