Another brace from Trey Charles secured Rugby Town a hard-fought away at Sutton Coldfield Town.
Rugby had to come from behind twice as the hosts scored early in each half to go in front before Charles twice equalised for Valley.
Valley's starting line-up showed just one enforced change from the encouraging performance and draw at home to Shepshed earlier in the week, with Edwin Ahenkorah beginning his three-match suspension and Damien Osoimoejiokhian replacing him at left-back.
It was generally a quiet start to the game from both sides, although Tayo Tucker did send a low shot wide of the target in the opening few minutes.
The hosts stepped up their game after that early chance though, with Charlie Dowd soon curling a decent effort wide.
The opening goal came on 13 minutes after Town keeper Paul Hathaway was very harshly adjudged to have fouled Kory Burke in the box to allow Ryan Edmunds the opportunity to fire his spot-kick into the bottom left-hand corner.
Liam Francis flicked a dangerous Dowd cross behind for a corner, and then Hathaway just about dealt with a deep delivery from the right by Tom Hurley, with a further threatening low centre from Dowd also saved by the busy visiting keeper.
Jack Lynch lifted one over as the Royals' dominance continued, before Rugby finally found their feet a little.
Charles's inswinging corner caused problems for the home defence, and then he put a free-kick into the wall, as Valley probed for a leveller before the break.
It ultimately came on 38 minutes when Tucker neatly chested down the ball before playing it into Charles's path, and he applied an impressive rising finish past Sutton keeper Lewis Landers.
Valley almost established themselves a half-time lead when Harrison Nee ran onto Ryan Sahota's pass, but the ex-Coventry City man was denied by the body of Landers - with Sahota nearly capitalising on the loose ball and then Nee having a further strike blocked in the same phase of play.
Dowd's effort way over the bar signalled a purposeful start to the new period from Coldfield's, and they were soon making it count when Dowd found Cameron Collins with his through-pass and Collins added a composed finish past Hathaway.
Town had their best spell of the match after this new setback, and twice Tucker went down in the area - without gaining the approval of the referee for Rugby's appeals for a penalty.
Sub Mikey Taylor struck the woodwork after a good run and cross by Dan Summerfield, although the striker was ruled to have committed an offence in getting his shot off anyway.
Another Taylor effort was comfortably gathered by Landers, with Sutton offering little at the other end during this spell apart from a free-kick from Edmunds that was easily caught by Hathaway.
Town's second equaliser of the afternoon also came from a debatable penalty award when James Beresford was punished for handling a Charles' half-volley that had bounced up from the artificial surface after a flowing break from the visitors had seen Summerfield swing in another dangerous cross.
Charles duly stepped up to stroke home his seventh of the season into the same corner as the hosts' penalty was dispatched earlier in the game.
It was a fairly scrappy affair thereafter, with Francis twice on-hand to clear Town's lines after scrambles in the box.
Collins also volleyed one high of the frame, with the final chance of the game falling to Rugby and Tucker, but his shot was blocked after he had cut inside from the left.
