Valley's pre-season preparations continued with a win at Walsall Wood.
Rugby were too strong for their newly reincarnated lower league opponents as a Callum Griffin hat-trick, Rivel Mardenborough brace and further goals from Liam Francis, Harrison Nee and Dilano Reid completed the rout.
Wood, who dropped out of the NPL Midlands last season during the season, have reformed this season several steps lower in the Midland Football League Division Three.
Grant Joshua was without a host of players with the likes of Josh Thomas, Caine Elliott, Olly West, Nathan Kabeya, Bleu McNeil among those missing.
Griffin opened the scoring early on with in impressive style when he teed himself up with a well-struck volley before the hosts leveled from the penalty spot through Mac Lee after Francis was penalised for a foul.
The lead was soon restored when Griffin picked out Mardenborough's well-timed run and the forward streaked clear to round the goalkeeper and score.
Griffin's second goal just before half time was more fortuitous as his inswinging free-kick was missed by the defender and found its way into the net.
But there was nothing lucky about Griffin's third goal ten minutes after the break when he clinically drilled a first time effort low past the goalkeeper from the edge of the box.
Mardenborough grabbed his second shortly afterwards from substitute Joe Palmer's cut-back with Palmer the provider again for the sixth when his pass found fellow sub Harrison Nee and the winger beat the keeper.
Francis headed in from Griffin's corner before Wood reduced the arrears twice through Adam Skeldon and Shay Batham.
Valley had the final word though when Dilano Reid curled in a 30-yard free-kick.
