Rugby Town came from behind twice to rescue a late point at Basford United in the Pitching In NPL Midlands.
Substitute Cairo Taylor's late strike earned what was, on balance, a deserved point, but the game could easily have swung either way with plenty of action at both ends.
Max Martin and Callum Griffin replaced Taylor and Ryan Sahota in two changes to the Town starting line-up from the previous outing against Coleshill, with Bleu McNeil back on the bench following his one-match suspension.
Rugby found themselves behind after just four minutes when Martin failed to deal with Lynden Joyce's hopeful long ball forward which saw Jack Goodman capitalise on this by running through and firing a near-post shot under the body of Marcus Bald.
United looked to push on from their good start to the game, and Kieran Cummings was soon flashing a low ball across the face of Bald's goal - with Martin on hand this time to help it out for a corner.
Valley levelled things up on thirteen minutes though thanks to Stan Anaebonam's brilliant solo effort, after he span his marker before powering away from the Basford defence with a run from inside his own half to coolly finish low past Matthew Yates.
The hosts were straight back at Town after this, with Goodman having another shot blocked after Connor Dimaio had slid the ball through to him, and then Ethan Hanson made a neat tackle on Curtis Durose to prevent him getting a shot off in the box.
Callum Cocks pulled one wide of the post as the home side continued to edge proceedings, although Rugby were still creating chances of their own, with Rivel Mardenborough's effort blocked after Sam Tye had swung in a cross and Yates deflecting Anaebonam's strike away for a corner following a clever one-two with Tye.
The final opportunity of the first-half saw Anaebonam's curling delivery into the box just fly beyond the head of Caine Elliott.
As they had in the opening period, Basford went ahead again just four minutes after the kick-off when Tye misplaced a pass and Cummings punished the visitors with a surge forward before teeing up Durose to smash one into the roof of the net.
Rugby once more demonstrated their resilience and were in the ascendancy for the next twenty minutes or so.
Elliott lifted one way over the bar from thirty yards, and then the same player was just unable to get a proper headed contact on Anaebonam's powerfully delivered cross from the left.
Town were unable to take advantage of another centre from the same wing - this time from sub Nathan Kabeya, with Mardenborough then missing the target from a wide angle after good work on the right from Taylor.
However, Durose lifted one over the bar with a great opportunity to put the game beyond Rugby after Bald had done well to keep out Cummings's initial effort, and as the game continued to open up further Bald comfortably gathered Dimaio's low shot from distance.
Valley ramped up their search for another equaliser in the closing minutes, and they got their reward when Harrison Nee chipped over a cross to the back post which was headed back by Hanson and then only partially cleared by Ethan Stewart to the feet of Taylor, whose sweetly-struck, first-time low volley made its way over the line despite the best efforts of a Basford defender to keep it out.
Sahota should have done better with his shot from twenty-yards as Town looked to snatch a late winner, whilst Basford threatened with a couple of corners that Rugby managed to scramble away.
The final opportunity of the game saw Nee do well to force his way across the by-line but his slide-rule cross was pushed into the side netting by Yates.
