Goals in each half from Rivel Mardenborough and Cairo Taylor secured Valley a deserved win at Racing Club Warwick.
The result represents the second win over the Racers this month after winning in the Trophy at Butlin Road and made it five games unbeaten in all competitions for Grant Joshua's men.
Joshua made three changes from Saturday's comeback win over Belper Town with Marcus Bald returning in goal along with Stan Anaebonam and Taylor in attack.
After Archie Hamp had headed over a good chance created by ex-Valley man James Hancocks's cross early on for the hosts, Rugby started to take over proceedings in the first half with another Town old boy Sam Lomax pulling off a series of fine saves within the opening twenty minutes.
Caine Elliott's dipping half-volley tested Lomax low down, whilst Mardenborough had him diving to his left to palm the ball away for a corner after Anaebonam had seen his initial effort blocked on the edge of the penalty area.
Lomax was again at full stretch to keep out Nathan Kabeya's swerving strike from distance after a neat one-two with Mardenborough, with Elliott's low cross-shot from the left then kicked away by the busy keeper, before Ollie West lifted one over the bar from a corner.
Aaron Opuku's acrobatic effort was parried away by Marcus Bald as Racing finally found their way into Town's box, but the visitors' dominance continued after that with Anaebonam sending one wide after he had cut in from the left wing.
Town's reward came on 31 minutes though, when Mardenborough opportunistically netted from a tight angle after he had initially done well when challenging for a ball on the by-line from Sam Tye's quick-thinking long throw.
Another purposeful run from Anaebonam ended with a low shot that Lomax once more pushed away with his legs - leading to a goalmouth scramble and back-to-back shots from Callum Griffin and Taylor, which were both blocked.
A Hancocks header did drift threateningly across the face of Bald's goal, although Rugby managed to carve the final opportunity of the first half when Mardenborough's strike from more than twenty yards looped up off a defender and comfortably nestled into Lomax's arms.
Valley returned from the interval in an equally as determined mood, with Griffin cleverly recycling his own corner to fashion a low delivery from the by-line which Jack Edwards did well to clear with Tye and Elliott ready to pounce.
Griffin's attempt at recreating his speculative goal against Belper three days earlier marginally missed the target after Lomax was forced to header out Tye's long punt forward, and then Tye himself headed wide a floated free-kick from Griffin.
Anaebonam continued to cause the Warwick defence problems with his pace and direct approach, and he drew another decent one-handed stop from Lomax after a quick Town counter which included a nice interchange between Mardenborough and his strike partner.
Rugby deservedly scored again on 62 minutes when Elliott's first-time lofted forward pass saw Taylor instinctively lift the ball over the head of Lomax's not insignificant frame and into the net. Cameron Ebbutt struck a free-kick over, and then Bald did well to keep out Opuku's shpt, as the hosts tried to get themselves back into the game.
They grabbed themselves a lifeline in stoppage-time from the spot, after Bald had failed to claim a deep delivery into the penalty area which led to a scramble ending with Josh Thomas bringing down Callum Coyle - with Opuku stroking the ball home from twelve yards against his old club.
Rugby defended well for the remainder of the game though, and nearly added a third themselves with sub Harrison Nee having a shot saved after a quick counter-attack from the impressive Kabeya, before Mardenborough lifted one wide from distance after Lomax had again raced out of his area to deal a lofted Town pass - this time from Isaac Adegoke.
