Valley were held to a draw by St Neots Town after a hard-fought encounter in front of a bumper Butlin Road crowd.
Trey Charles' second-half goal for a depleted Valley side cancelled out the visitors half-time lead on a heavy pitch to ensure the points were shared.
With striker Rivel Mardenborough and Bleu McNeil unavailable and Harrison Nee, Isaac Adegoke, Ethan Hanson and Callum Griffin all ruled out injured, Rugby boss Grant Joshua made a number of changes to his match-day squad.
Skipper Sam Tye was back though after missing the previous two games, with Town Academy prospects Fabian Stolowski and Alex Dulgheru both named on the bench.
Teddy Rowe's cross from the right drifted just over in the first meaningful attack of the game, before the visitors missed out on a great opportunity to open the scoring when things opened up for Kieran Barnes after Valley had failed to deal with a long-kick forward by St.Neots keeper James Goff, but Barnes helped the ball wide from a great position instead.
Charles sent one way over the stand after he had cut in from the right, and Cairo Taylor was almost in on one, as the hosts searched for a goal, and it nearly came when Tye's header at the back post almost sneaked in off the post from Charles's deep corner.
Barnes's free-kick from twenty-five yards clipped the top of the Rugby crossbar, and Connor Furlong curled one just wide after Harvey Williams had set him up, as the open start to the game continued.
Rugby's best period of the half then followed, with Goff denying Charles on three separate occasions within a few minutes.
First the Saints' stopper kept out his angled strike with the legs, before pulling off a fine diving save to push away Charles's volley after Taylor's initial cross had only been half-cleared.
The final chance saw Taylor involved again with a cross to Charles, who this time fired it low - but again Goff was equal to the attempt.
In between Charles's trio of opportunities, Taylor had also had a shot blocked and Rowe's teasing cross had been cleared away, so it was against the run of play when the visitors struck on 37 minutes after Caine Elliott missed his interception in the box to provide Sam Willis with the time he needed on the by-line to tee up Williams to smash home into the top corner.
St.Neots nearly doubled their lead shortly after when Furlong cut in from the right to strike a goal-bound effort which Marcus Bald did well to keep out with a diving one-handed save. Rowe's free-kick late in the half failed to test Goff, with Charlie Bowen also missing out with a header in the lead-up to the interval.
The second-half was a less eventful affair, although new Valley signing Jack Concannon was denied early into the period by a decent sliding tackle by Bowen.
Whilst it was Rugby that dominated the bulk of the possession and territory, it was in fact the visitors that created the better chances, with James Stainsby's low shot going wide and Williams, in particular, causing Town problems - leading to a series of opportunities for the left-winger, as he flashed a couple of low cross/shots just past the post and then fired one well over.
Stainsby headed another effort wide, before Rugby got reward for their endeavours when Tye won possession near the centre-circle before lifting a great pass into the path of Charles to run on and guide the ball past Goff for the equaliser.
Greg Tempest then did well to get a foot to a dangerous St.Neots cross and his central defensive partner Josh Thomas did even better with a well-timed tackle to thwart Williams in the box, before the final chance of the game saw Nathan Kabeya blaze over after sub Stan Anaebonam and Tye had combined neatly to set him up.
