Rugby Town's pre-season hit the ground running with a comfortable win at UCL Premier North side Skegness Town.
The numerous Valley fans who had taken the chance to make the trip to the seaside got a first look at Grant Joshua's revamped side, which included no fewer than eight new faces, and were rewarded with a dominant display.
Goalkeeper Ash Bodycote was away meaning Academy stopper Logan Cooper deputised while Louis Samuels (holiday), Nathan Scott (holiday), Ryan Boothe (holiday), Ethan Hanson (not yet fit to play), Harrison Nee (minor injury) and Ben Richards (illness) all didn't make the trip to the coast.
A quick ball forward by Jake Duffy down the Rugby left yielded the first reward of the afternoon as Charlie Tilley played in last season's top scorer Rivel Mardenborough to open the scoring from the edge of the area.
The lead was doubled ten minutes before the break and again came from the left as Aaron Nuttall crossed for Charlie Tilley to tuck home a first time effort at the near post.
Mardenborough turned provider as he bulldozed through the Skegness defence to tee up Tilley for his his second just before half time and straight after half time Mardenborough again assisted with with Sam Tye heading into the net.
Nuttall's impressive dribble in the penalty area was illegally halted but the diminuative winger was unable to convert the spotkick.
But Valley didn't have to wait long for the fifth goal as Academy midfielder Alex Dulgheru came off the bench to head Steph Morley's corner into the net via a deflection.
Nuttall finally got his goal with the last kick of the game when he shrugged off his marker to finish past the onrushing goalkeeper from Tilley's pass.
