Valley made it five successive wins with a hard-fought win at Northampton Sileby Rangers.
The blustery conditions in Rugby's first visit to Fernie Field didn't make for a classic encounter in pure football terms but there was plenty of action as midfielder Charlie Tilley's quick-fire brace in the second half ultimately settled the game in Valley's favour.
Rugby got off to a perfect start as Sam Tye pounced to stab home from close range following Aaron Nuttall's corner with just three minutes on the clock.
The hosts were level ten minutes later when Jack Daldy headed Tom Simmons' long throw beyond Ash Bodycote into the corner of the net.
Zidan Sutherland restored the lead for Rugby from the penalty spot just before the half hour mark after he had been tripped in the area by Frankie Webster.
Sileby got their own penalty a few minutes later when Joziah Barnett was fouled by Jake Wormleighton and captain Luca Iaciofano made no mistake with his penalty.
Sutherland missed a golden chance before half time after being played in by Tye but he telegraphed his shot from 10 yards and John Meadows made the save.
Meadows made a brilliant reaction save to tip Tye's header onto the underside of the crossbar just after the break.
Bodycote did superbly to deny Barnett when he was clean through before the same player had another chance moments later but he flashed his shot just wide.
The key breakthrough came from Hisham Chiha's deep corner which Wormleighton nodded back into the six yard box and Tilley reacted to tap the ball into the net from close range.
Just two minutes later Rugby got a second in almost identical fashion but from the opposite side as Wormleighton nodded back Nuttall's deep corner and Tilley this time smashed a shot in via the underside of the bar from six yards.
