Rugby first came across Carlton Town on the fixture list in the 2015 season as both clubs were placed in the NPL Division One South.

Valley won the first two meetings between the sides before The Millers reversed the fortunes the following campaign in Rugby's relegation season from the NPL in 2017.

The sides met again in the FA Trophy in 2024 before they made league acquaintences again the season later when Carlton were moved into the NPL Midlands.
