Hednesford Town had a few seasons of decline in the early 00's which saw them fall from Conference football to the Southern League Premier by 2004.

However, the Pitmen soon found themselves back up to the Conference South after sneaking up through the play-offs in 2005.

Hednesford returning to step 7 into the Northern Premier League but in 09/10 were switched to face up with Valley again in the Southern League Premier.
