Rugby faced Wednesfield for a competitive fixture for the first time in over 27 years.

Unfortunately, Rugby suffered possibly their worst ever FA Cup defeat losing to the then West Midlands (Regional) League (two levels below Rugby) side 5-1.

Valley's last meeting with Wednesfield Social before this resulted in a 0-0 away draw on the 19 April 1983, just 11 days before the FA Vase Wembley final.

Incredibly we played in the FA Vase Semi- Final 2nd Leg at Great Yarmouth on 2nd April followed by league fixtures on April 4th, 6th, 9th, 12th, 14th, 16th, 19th, 21st, 23rd & 26th before lifting the FA Vase.
