PLACE
IN QUARTER FINALS A GOOD START FOR ROD
New
Rugby Town manager Rod Brown was able to celebrate
a win in his first game in charge at Butlin Road
thanks to Dave Pearson's ninth minute goal.
The
single goal victory over BGB Premier rivals Bedford
Town saw Rugby earn a place in the quarter finals
of the Errea Cup for the second time in two seasons.
The
win also represented an eighth game consecutively
unbeaten at Butlin Road for Valley.
Rod
used the game to field a strong line-up and the
home side were soon rewarded when Delroy Gordon's
cross was deflected into the path of Dave Pearson
who slide home from close range.
That
goal proved to be enough to seal a place in the
next round, but Rugby played a good game and created
some key chances.
Debutant
goalkeeper Richard Anstiss had to be sharp to
a keep out curling first half effort from Scott
Sinclair and even when Anstiss was beaten in the
second half, Aaron Stringfellow was on hand to
make an excellent clearance.
