Rugby
Town slipped to a single-goal defeat at the hands
of perennial contenders Chippenham Town at Butlin
Road.
Kevin
Halliday's 21st-minute header, which appeared
to take a deflection off Rugby's Stephan Morley,
proved to be decisive as Rugby failed to gain
the initiative in a scrappy game.
Chippenham
were well on top during the first half with a
string of corners in long spells of pressure but
they only had a one goal lead at half time.
Rugby
showed more threat in the second half and but
for a lack of cutting edge could have snatched
an equaliser.
Valley's
best chance came five minutes from time when Morley's
long free kick was headed across goal by Delroy
Gordon for defensive partner Craig Herbert, but
the club captain could only head the ball straight
into the goalkeeper's arms.
