Rugby
Town Under 18 Team
Youth
football in Rugby is undergoing a new revolution with the
partnership of the top senior side Rugby Town and one of the biggest
junior clubs in the country Rugby Town JFC.
The
structure of the club is such that players can progress from the age
of five from feeder squads in the junior club's setup, all the way
through to under 17s. Meanwhile, the Rugby Town School of
Excellence has been setup to compete in the Midland Premier
Youth League and will provide a good standard of coaching, playing,
and facilities for the finest youth talent in Rugby. These age
groups start at under 12s, and progress all the way up to the under
18s in the Midland Floodlit Youth League.
Since its foundation
six years ago, the under 18s side has been feeding
the first team squad with Rugby's finest youngsters. From
the 2001/2 Championship-winning Youth side, Justin
Marsden, Rory
Squire and Neil
Melvin emerged
into the first team squad and have remained since whilst other
talents such as Ryan Byrne and Richard Wesley are being produced.
This
new system provides a direct feed for talented youngsters in Rugby
to use the best facilities in the Midlands with the junior club's 30
acre footballing site at Kilsby Lane and the senior club's third
generation pitch development at Butlin Road.
