Under
9s Take Home Tamworth Cup! |
Rugby
Town under 9’s travelled to “ The Lamb “ the home of Tamworth FC
on Saturday to contest the final of the Tamworth Cup.
Their opponents
were Coventry based side Chapelfield Colts who had conceded only
one goal in the previous five rounds.
Town started
the stronger and great football created half chances for Charlie
Hawkins and Dylan Tellyn whose shots were either well saved or brushed
the woodwork.
A lapse in defensive
concentration allowed Colts an opportunity but a superb chase and
tackle from Elliot Moore rescued the situation.
With Colts struggling
to handle the pace of Adam Shaw, he eventually found enough room
to hit an unstoppable shot to give Town the lead.
With Josh Baker
and William Scott outstanding in defence Colts opportunities were
few but just before half time slack marking at a corner resulted
in the equaliser being scrambled home.
Nathan Bailey
and Harry Brown worked tirelessly for the Town in attack and Adam
Neale in goal was forced to make some fine second half saves as
the rain made conditions more difficult..
With extra time
looking possible Dylan Tellyn and Charlie Hawkins combined to release
Adam Shaw who fired home his second of the game and the ultimate
winner.
A great all
round contribution by all nine players in the squad and a deserved
reward for their performances throughout the season.
Congratulations
to all the boys and big thanks to all the supporters on the day.
Well done also to the management team of Chris Courtenay and Nick
Letts. |

U15s
AVC International Cup - Italy |
Rugby
Town Junior U15’s took part in the inaugural AVC International Cup
played between the 6th and 13th of April in Sportillia, Italy and
what a great time was had by the players as they had a taste of
a footballers life, with a full programme of coaching and matches
at the purpose built sports facility high up in the mountains near
Forli.
All the age
groups played matches in a four-team league format with the top
two teams then playing in the final. First up for Town for A.S.
Virtus Calcio from Italy, after a nervous start in the first 15
minutes, Town switched into overdrive with a classy free kick from
Ben Oliver opening the scoring and that was followed by an Alexander
‘Shillo’ Shilton hat-trick, and one each from Danny Jones, Sam Birtwistle
and reserve keeper James Price rounding off to a 7-0 win.
Up next was
the Chelsea FC USA Academy and what a game this turned out to be.
With the Town lads determined to cause an upset, they gave 150%
effort, intensity and commitment and stunned CFC USA Academy with
what proved to be their only defeat of the week 4-3 thanks to two
from Shillo, one from Michael Glover and one from Ryan Miller all
of which were based around set piece work.
Match three
was against Stevenage Borough’s Academy, and despite Stevenage having
a never ending stream of substitutes to prevent tiredness in the
hot afternoon against Towns small squad and the tatic of having
several people around the pitch to feed the ball in to keep the
pace relentless, Town ensured they qualified for the final with
an outstanding team performance on goal difference by holding out
to a 1-0 defeat.
The final against
Chelsea’s USA Academy went in the favour of Americans 4-0, as they
took their chances and thwarted Towns superior aerial power at set
pieces that had provided the goals in the previous encounter by
borrowing a couple of Stevenage’s taller defenders, never the less
the lads did themselves proud in giving everything they had.
The U15’s didn’t
come away empty handed though, at the presentations they were awarded
the tournament fair-play trophy for displaying a high standard in
the ‘spirit of sportsmanship in football’ for their commitment on
the pitch, their sportsmanship after each game, their team spirit
both on and off the pitch in winning or loosing and for the way
have represented their club throughout the week and in doing so,
they were congratulated by the organisers for setting an example
to the other 11 teams attending, something that they should all
be proud of.
A big thank
you to the businesses that contributed to the trip - Longhorns Bar
& Grill – EON – Premier Sheet Metal - Cummings and McAlpines
and to everyone who helped with the fund raising. |

Football
In The Community On A Saturday Morning |
Youngsters
from Rugby get to grips with their first taste of football at
Rugby Town FC's new astro-turf facility on Saturday mornings.

A
cold winter's morning does not deter the budding young footballers.

Wet
& icy weather has meant that council pitches have been out
of action recently, but the all-weather pitches provide the perfect,
safe solution.

Funders
Thanks |

Rugby
Town Junior Football Club celebrated its new, permanent home at
a special Funders Celebration on Thursday 23rd November.
Representatives
from organisations which supported plans to build the club’s new
Kilsby Lane facilities gathered to see the facilities and meet club
members.
Now complete,
the building is the club’s first secure base, comprising nine mini
soccer pitches, two intermediate and two full-size pitches plus
a fully equipped pavilion. The new ground will benefit the whole
community by providing a purpose built facility that can be hired
for sporting events or in the case of the pavilion, for social events.
The project
was given a £47,848 boost from Biffaward, a multi-million
pound environment fund managed by the Royal Society of Wildlife
Trusts, which utilises landfill tax credits donated by Biffa Waste
Services. Biffaward funding contributed specifically to the installation
of floodlighting.
Ian Fulton,
Club President, said: “This award enables users of the club to extend
playing time and make maximum use of the facilities. We are extremely
grateful to Biffaward for their support.”
Martin Bettington,
Chairman of Biffaward, said: “Biffaward is delighted to provide
some of the funding needed to give a permanent home to the club
and enable it to continue its successes. The complex will provide
new sporting and social opportunities to greatly benefit the local
community.”
Biffa provides
a range of public sector, commercial and industrial waste collection
services as well as the management of 33 operational landfill sites
across the UK. The multi-million pound a year Biffaward fund has
been set up, using tax charged on waste taken into landfill sites,
to help finance environmental projects near Biffa sites.

A
Letter from Richard Dean Secretary of the Nuneaton & Bedworth
League:
Dear Secretary
Rugby Town JFC
We are quick to criticise but slow to praise so I thought it only
right to say that Derry Birse & his team are a credit to your
Club and our League. I watched a thoroughly enjoyable game of football
played in great spirit and the sportsmanship from both teams during,
and after the game was great to see. If only they were all played
like this one!
Best wishes
Richard Dean (Secretary)
The score was: Whitestone 3 Rugby Town 1

GOAL
- Leading the Way in Child Protection |
Child
protection is high on The FA's agenda.
The goal is
to have someone at every club in the country aware of child protection
and best practice, whether it's a Premiership Academy or a Sunday
morning park side.
Goal is about
doing things the right way, doing things properly. It's about allowing
children to enjoy the game without abuse of any kind. That means
bullying, physical, emotional or sexual abuse and neglect.
The FA believes
football can have a powerful positive influence on children. But
that means everyone involved in football must take on the responsibility
of looking after those children that want to play the game.
The latest edition
of the Goal Briefing is now available. Click here to download.
